Project Overview

Project Townsville is a proposed advanced computing campus designed to support secure digital services, scientific research, artificial intelligence, business technology, and other high-performance computing applications.

The campus is being planned as a privately funded development in the North Townsville Industrial District.

The Site

About the Project

Meridian Compute Partners is evaluating approximately 1,100 acres of previously designated industrial land for the development of Project Townsville.

Current plans include multiple technology buildings, electrical infrastructure, administrative and operations facilities, security facilities, equipment yards, internal roadways, and preserved natural areas.

The campus would be developed in phases, allowing infrastructure and operations to expand gradually over time.

Energy Infrastructure

The project will fund the infrastructure needed to serve the campus.

Meridian Compute Partners will pay the costs associated with connecting Project Townsville to the regional electrical system, including dedicated substations, transmission improvements, and other required infrastructure.

The project will operate under a long-term commercial service agreement designed to prevent project-related infrastructure costs from being passed to existing residential customers.

Grid Reliability

Supporting Grid Reliability

Project Townsville is being designed with flexible energy-management systems that can reduce nonessential computing activity during periods of unusually high regional demand.

This capability can help utility partners manage temporary demand without disrupting essential campus operations.

The project is also evaluating:

  • On-site battery storage
  • Energy-efficient computing equipment
  • Advanced power-management software
  • Renewable energy purchasing agreements
  • Backup generation systems for critical operations
  • Heat recovery and energy reuse opportunities
Water and Cooling

High-efficiency cooling with limited ongoing water demand

The campus will use a closed-loop cooling system. Water within the system is recirculated rather than continuously consumed.

The final cooling design will depend on engineering studies, equipment selection, and local conditions. The current plan emphasizes air-assisted and closed-loop technologies to minimize routine water use.

Water used for normal workplace functions will be supplied through approved local or regional sources without reducing access for nearby homes and businesses.

Site Design

Site Design and Environmental Planning

Project Townsville is being designed to fit within an established industrial area while protecting neighboring properties and environmentally sensitive areas.

Current planning considerations include:

  • Landscaped setbacks from public roads
  • Preserved tree buffers
  • Wetland avoidance and mitigation
  • Downward-directed site lighting
  • Stormwater retention and treatment
  • Construction dust controls
  • Noise-reduction measures
  • Wildlife and habitat assessments
  • Limited access points for construction traffic
  • Designated truck routes

Environmental studies will continue throughout the planning and permitting process.

Transportation

Traffic and Transportation

The majority of traffic will occur during the construction period. The project team will coordinate with state and local transportation agencies to identify required road improvements and manage construction traffic.

Once operating, the campus is expected to generate substantially less daily truck traffic than a warehouse or distribution center of comparable size.

Potential transportation improvements include:

  • Turn lanes at primary entrances
  • Signal improvements
  • Road resurfacing
  • Construction vehicle staging areas
  • Designated delivery schedules
  • Employee transportation programs
Phased Development

Project Townsville will not be built all at once.

01Core infrastructure

The first phase is expected to include core utility infrastructure, internal roads, the initial computing facilities, and the central operations building.

02Staged expansion

Additional phases will move forward based on permitting, utility availability, market demand, financing, and successful completion of earlier development milestones.

03Long-term operation

Full development is expected to take approximately eight to ten years, with initial operations anticipated in 2030.

Accountability

Accountability and Public Reporting

Meridian Compute Partners intends to publish an annual Project Townsville Community Report.

The report will include available information about:

  • Construction progress
  • Employment
  • Local supplier participation
  • Community investments
  • Water use
  • Energy use
  • Environmental performance
  • Tax contributions
  • Community engagement activities

An independent third party will periodically review the project’s public commitments and published performance information.
